Outstanding Author SeriesWhat is more natural to a library’s mission than to bring authors of national stature to the community, to share their work, and to encourage open and productive discussions about issues of local, national and even international importance? The Foundation launched its Outstanding Authors Series in 2006 with internationally recognized author and radio personality Thom Hartmann, author of the groundbreaking Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight, and David B. Wolfe, author of several books about best business practices, including Ageless Marketing, and Firms of Endearment, The Pursuit of Purpose and Profit. The Outstanding Authors Series sponsors at least two theme-based appearances each year. The Homework CenterAnswering a need for a safe, controlled and enriching environment for the community’s middle-schoolers to meet after school and receive help with their homework, the Foundation is funding the equipping and staffing of the Library’s new Homework Center. The Homework Center is equipped with desks, school texts and computers, and will have a teacher on hand to help and guide the students as they work on their studies, and socialize. Books on WheelsMany Pinellas residents yearn to use the Library –– for research, for its entertainment such as videos and music, or just to check out a good book –– but cannot because they are homebound or otherwise unable to get to the Library. The Foundation is committed to supporting its Books on Wheels program, both financially and through its volunteers, to deliver books and other Library materials so that everyone in our community can enjoy the richness the Library offer. Capital Projects and Library EnhancementsAlong with its ongoing programs, the Foundation also makes capital expenditures to support and enhance the Library’s infrastructure and physical plant. Investments such as digital locator and announcement signs within the Library, and mobility carts for the Library’s senior and disabled visitors, are examples of these projects. Foreign Language CollectionThe Greater Largo Library Foundation is in the process of soliciting funding to enhance the Largo Public Library with a Foreign Language Book Area. The Largo Public Library gets many requests for books in foreign languages. Due to its wide use, Spanish language books seem to be the natural place to start in collection development. While unable to house a large collection, it would be possible to begin with some non-fiction and fiction titles if the appropriate funding can be located. Your support for this project would be greatly appreciated. To learn more about how you can help us achieve our goal please click here.
